Bill Leavell is an advocate and consultant for all things related to the arts and culture, and has been a driving force in DeKalb’s diverse arts community for years. A native of Newnan, Georgia, Bill is a graduate of the Art Institute of Atlanta where he studied Graphic Design and Visual art. Bill also majored in Fine Art Education with a concentration in painting and sculpture at the University at West Georgia. As former Executive Director for DeKalb’s Porter Sanford III Performing Arts & Community Center, Bill was instrumental in all aspects of launching the new Center, from architectural design to program development and logo. Prior to working for DeKalb County, Bill was Creative Director for Belk Department stores for more than 14 years. His duties included computer graphics, drawings, photography direction, model management and merchandise branding.
Bill has owned and operated Leavellgraphics for 22 years, with clients such as Coca Cola, Bronner Brothers, The Diamond Warehouse, and Rich’s Dept. Stores (Federated Inc.). Finally, using a secret family recipe, Bill produces and sells Aunt Duck’s World Famous Cheese Straws.
The subject of Bill’s artwork is the human form and spirit, rendered in graphite. The visually captivating work reflects the influence of Bill’s vast experience. It is graphically bold, yet sensitively drawn, with meticulous details.
